Aufruf zum Interkiezionale Block beim Housing Action Day in Berlin

Call to join the block of Interkiezionale at the Housing Action Day in Berlin

The gentrification in Berlin continues incessantly, and with it the displacement. Not only people but also spaces are affected: Spaces of the radical movement, open spaces, safer spaces for people affected by discrimination, non-commercial spaces, spaces of subculture, of political networking and spaces where people try to live concrete utopias.

Without space – no movement

All of these are spaces that live and fight for a different Berlin: a Berlin in which we know our neighbours, in which we create our houses and our neighbourhood together and jointly determine how public space is used. A Berlin where there is space for self-chosen living concepts. A Berlin in which we can try out alternatives to the exploitative and oppressive relations of wage labour, care work, educational system and on the basis of rent and ownership.
How do we want to fight for such a city when these spaces are evicted? Where do we meet for assemblies? Where do we paint banners? Where can we make events to educate ourselves? Where can we hold non-commercial and sub-cultural events, concerts, reading groups, workshops, trainings or have people’s kitchen?  Where do feel safer from patriarchal and racist violence? Where can we meet outside of authoritarian control – for example by parents, teachers, professors, the police, superiors or security personnel – or without consuming anything?
In our struggle for a liveable city, the struggle for these projects is an essential part.

Corona or the intensification of social war?

While at the beginning of the crisis it was claimed that we are all in the same boat, we can see the real character of this state of emergency clearly now. The profits of landlords appear to be a Human Right. Rents will only be deferred, as if the lower class would be able to compensate for it with extra work in the next two years.
The alternative living project SabotGarden was bulldozed in the middle of the pandemic, after it had been bullied by the police force and a security company all days long in the last months. There, where people created spaces for their living, is now again waste land. The senate, while publicly pretending to support SabotGarten, explicitly authorized this eviction. This is a municipal policy, which reminds us of dark chapters of South American citys.
Meanwhile in Nordkiez/Friedrichshain the cops are testing a new siege concept with their new “Brennpunkteinheiten” (police units for so called social hot spots). The so called danger zone is again becoming a big playground for bored and aggressive cops and with it a real danger to those who do not fit in this normed and profit-oriented city.

Fight with us

This is only the prelude of a new round of social distribution conflicts.
For the threatened projects time is running out. Liebig34 has lost its eviction court case. Syndikat ought to be evicted on the 7th of August. We see this quickly reappointment of the eviction date for what it is: a declaration of war. Lets not just wait till day X, lets start fighting now!
Fight with us and join us in the block of the Interkiezionale on the Housing Action Day 2020 in Berlin!

Saturday, the 20th of June, 2 pm at Potsdamer Platz
